Jens Kirschner

Jens Kirschner (MSc) originally worked as Senior Forensics Assistant at X-Ways for several years. He had developed most of the training program and delivered on-site training for local, state, and federal law enforcement personnel, intelligence agencies, military, tax fraud investigation agencies, private sector investigators and expert witnesses as well as blue-chip company IT specialists in the US, Canada, Germany and other European countries since 2004. During his years at X-Ways, his knowledge in file systems, which he imparts in focused trainings for computer forensic examiners, has been crucial in extending the functionality of X-Ways Forensics to include the various Linux file systems (Ext2, Ext3, Ext4, ReiserFS, Reiser4...) and revisions of UDF. Because of his programming contributions to the development of the software, he knows the product from the inside.

His forensic experience reaches past beyond employment with X-Ways Software Technology having already specialized in computer forensics during a two-year post-graduate university program from which he received a Master's degree with distinction. When employed with KPMG Forensic, Jens also worked in the field of Intellectual Property Investigation.

After relocation to the UK, Jens worked at the UK's National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA) as High Tech Crime Training Course Manager before becoming the Lead Training Manager at 7Safe, a renowned IT security and forensics services and training company in the UK. Jens has restructured and replaced 7Safe's existing forensic training program and introduced new courses including a course specialising on Mac OS X investigations. Many of these courses rely on X-Ways Forensics' special capability of making data structures accessible. In 2010, Jens decided to become independent: As the owner of Jens Training Ltd he continued to work as a trainer for X-Ways Forensics internationally, in the USA, UK, and elsewhere in Europe.

In 2012 Jens returned to X-Ways.

Jens was awarded a Professional Fellowship (FBCS) of The British Computer Society/The Chartered Institute for IT and is a member of IACIS (International Association of Computer Investigative Specialists) and (ISC)2 (International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium). He holds a variety of computer forensics and IT security certifications, including the IACIS CFCE (Certified Forensic Computer Examiner) and the (ISC)2 CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional).
